As the Director of Promotions for Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, I created a three-part film series to expand event programming in the community and further enhance downtown Harrisonburg’s designation as the first Arts & Cultural District in Virginia.
Each evening featured a distinct theme and was held in conjunction with monthly First Fridays programming. Local food trucks and artisans provided dining and shopping options at the events.
- Flash Back Night: The first event featured a flashback to the 1960s and 1970s with storytelling and multimedia from Harrisonburg residents about life in the community at that time, followed by selections from the Super Gr8 Film Festival, a Harrisonburg-based festival featuring local films made on the historic Super 8 film format.
- Student Night: The second event welcomed students from the Harrisonburg area’s four colleges and universities with performances by student a capella, music, theater, and dance groups, followed by student films.
- Farm to Table Night: The finale event kicked off local food and farm-to-table celebrations leading up to National Food Day (October 24) and featured food tastings and cooking demos with Harrisonburg Farmers Market vendors and local chefs, a panel with local food entrepreneurs and farmers, and food-related short films.
